The latest on the death of Hawaii’s iconic landmark, the Hilo Tower, as a luxury apartment building has sold for more than $1 million.

The Honolulu Sun reports the apartment building at 2222 Waikiki Avenue, which has been a popular place for tourists to enjoy in the years since its dedication in 1989, sold Thursday to a new owner for $2,3 million.

Hilo Tower is on the east side of Waikiri Avenue between the intersection of Waialae Street and the intersection with Waimanalo Street.

The tower is a key landmark in the Hawaiian Islands and a landmark to the state of Hawaii.
